Fan Letters: “I really want her to enjoy the experience of watching Sunderland Ladies”

Dear Roker Report,

Planning to take my daughter to see SAFC Ladies v Durham on Sunday, just wondering if you have any advice as I really want her to enjoy the experience and the day. Is it easy enough to meet the players and get autographs etc?

Ed’s Note [Rich]: Thanks for your letter, Kevin. You and your daughter will have a great time at Eppleton on Sunday, and meet and greet with the players is something that is part and parcel of the women’s game.

If you can’t meet them inside then just wait outside the gates of the ground afterwards for selfies and autographs. Most of the players on both sides will have friends and family there too, and it should be a fantastic occasion whatever the result.

Dear Roker Report,

Heard a lot particularly from LJ about how the real test for our young players would be playing in bad weather and in the cold, but on Saturday it was the older pros who were the worst. AOB, Wright, and Evans were shocking.

Think it’s lazy to pin it on inexperience - Tom Flanagan’s interview after the game on SAFC.com was spot on and I can only imagine that it was a toned-down version of what was really said in the dressing room afterwards.

We live and learn but we must improve. No more soft underbelly.

Ed’s Note [Rich]: Hi Jake, a mix of youth and experience is going to be important this season, whatever the weather. Saturday was a poor performance in horrendous conditions. I’m sure they will remember it, and learn from it. I have a lot of faith in the youngesters, but also in the senior leaders at the club.
