Excited baseball fans gathered at All-Star Sports Bar on Wednesday afternoon to watch the beginning of National League playoff baseball.
The Cardinals flew out to Los Angeles to take on the Dodgers in the NL Wild Card series, where local fans came to root on the two clubs, while others sat to anticipate a future matchup with the most popular team in the Northstate—the San Francisco Giants.
The Giants completed the 2021 regular season with 107 wins—the most in franchise history dating back to the team's tenure in New York beginning in the 1880s.
Redding isn't short on baseball fans. One local, Bob Dawson, moved up from southern California just a few months ago and is a longtime Red Sox fan. After watching Boston's 6-2 victory over the Yankees in the A.L. Wildcard yesterday, he came back to watch the Dodgers/Cardinals game.
"I spent seventeen years in Boston," Dawson said, "I used to be a banker for their bank so I hung out in the clubhouse for the Red Sox back in the seventies."
Logan Webb will be on the mound for Game 1 of the NLDS in San Francisco, as the Giants seek their ninth world series title.
