Accidents reported in Waushara County

9/18/2021: A two-vehicle accident occurred at 2:20 p.m. on Robert St. in the Town of Poy Sippi. Unit 1 was parked next to park shelter. Marianne Pegel, 52, Pine River, was parked across driving lane next to unused oil trailer. She began backing out of parking spot. Pegel was affected by glare from the sun and struck the rear passenger corner of bumper of Unit 1 with their rear passenger corner of bumper. Unit 1’s bumper was dented inward about the size of a volleyball. Little to no damage on Pegel’s unit.

9/29/2021: A one-vehicle accident occurred at 1:15 p.m. on CTHJ northbound in the Town of Oasis. Mason Mahoney, 23, Wisconsin Rapids, was in a large straight truck potato/produce body, operating onto the should slowing down, entered ditch, struck culvert, traveled through ditch striking Alliant Energy utility pole, across County Road J, into east ditch of County Road J, over-corrected to right in freshly fumigated and plowed farm field and came to rest facing north. Damage was done to all areas from striking culvert and utility pole smashing down on truck. Mahoney stated the truck just jerked to the right. Evidence of slow drift onto shoulder for over 300 feet, then abrupt entrance into the ditch when truck rolled off of gravel shoulder. Employer on scene advised Mahoney. Evidence shows different then a brake and sudden jerk to right. Mahoney stated he was slowing down for field entrance ahead on left, operating on shoulder to let traffic to his rear pass driving on shoulder. Mahoney started work at 3 a.m., woke up at 1:30 a.m., appeared tired, but would not admit to being on cell phone nor that he fell asleep.

10/1/2021: A one-vehicle accident occurred at 9:13 p.m. on 19th Rd. in the Town of Marion. Robert Phillips, 57, Malone, attempted to turn around on 19th Road, misjudged where pavement ended, and became stuck in the lawn at N2202 State Rd. 73.
