Lashana Lynch Says Kevin Feige Told Her About Maria Rambeau’s Fate

In 2019, Lashana Lynch joined the MCU when she portrayed Maria Rambeau in Captain Marvel. However, Lynch’s Marvel stint ended off-screen in WandaVision when it was revealed that Maria died from cancer during the five-year gap between Thanos’ snap and its undoing. Regardless, this wasn’t a surprise to Lynch. While speaking with Comic Book, Lynch revealed that Marvel’s Kevin Feige warned her about Maria’s fate ahead of time.

“Kevin Feige, who is the nicest guy, personally emailed me way before, I want to say, over a year, year-and-a-half-plus, before WandaVision aired and explained what was happening, how it was going to happen, when it was going to happen,” said Lynch. “And him specifically saying that he didn’t want me to find out through anyone else. So there was a lot of care around that.”

WandaVision introduced Teyonah Parris as the older Monica Rambeau while she was mourning for her mother post-snap. Monica gained her own superhuman powers during the show as well, and she will also share the spotlight with Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel in The Marvels. For that reason, Lynch is glad to see her onscreen daughter emerge as a heroine in the MCU.

“It was sad to read, but also, because I think Maria had such a massive impact on Captain Marvel and everyone loved her and really related to her, I felt good with the work that I did there and felt good that they were able to now continue her legacy in her daughter, which is amazing,” related Lynch. “And the introduction to her powers in WandaVision is also amazing, so I feel genuinely proud. I’m just happy I knew beforehand and didn’t find out online somewhere.”

The Marvels will hit theaters on November 11, 2022.
