The New York Knicks had a grand time on Tuesday after blasting the Indiana Pacers in their preseason game, 125-104 at a rocking Madison Square Garden. Kemba Walker made his debut for the Knicks, contributing 12 points and three assists in limited minutes.
The win showed the potential of the revamped Knicks roster, with an improved depth and a more balanced crew on both ends of the floor. Tom Thibodeau will definitely have more weapons to work with this time compared to his first season in the Big Apple, giving the Knicks a better chance of competing.
A bunch of NBA general managers, however, don't think so. In the latest GM survey, the Knicks were not among the top seven contenders in the Eastern Conference. When asked about this, Walker gave quite a biting remark (via Alder Almo of Empire Sports Media).
“I could care less. Most GMs never played basketball. Let’s be real. Who cares what they think? I could care less. We believe in ourselves. We’re gonna play so hard every night. And that’s gonna give us a chance to win every night.”
Knicks wingman RJ Barrett, who's poised to have a breakout season for the Knicks, also gave a similar retort.
“It makes no sense. First of all, a Thibs-coached team is automatically gonna be a good defensive team. You have Nerls (Nerlens Noel) and Mitch (Mitchell Robinson) on the team like we’re gonna be good defensively. I’m not worried about that.”
Walker and Barrett will join Julius Randle, Derrick Rose, and Evan Fournier as the core guys for the Knicks, who are looking to build on their inspired run last season.
