SEATTLE -- Until the past year, most people were able to get by with an older laptop or a smaller tablet at home because most people completed larger projects that require more computing power for their office desktop.
For many workers, however, who are working remotely now it may be time to rethink the home computer.
Sales of desktops have risen recently.
“Desktops have a large display, impressive computing power and are more ergonomic than laptops," said Nicholas De Leon, tech expert for Consumer Reports.
The magazine likes the 24-inch all-in-one Apple iMac with an M1 processor.
The magazine's experts say it held up well during performance tests, and it has an excellent display.
A less expensive option, the HP Envy full size desktop clocked in as one of the magazine's fastest. It also was rated excellent for ergonomics.
And if you’re tight on space, a model from Asus could be the perfect fit.
- Apple iMac 24-inch - M1 chip / $1,300 USD / $1600 CAD
- HP Envy TE01-1134 / $870 USD / $1100 CAD
- Asus VivoMini VC66-C2 / $750 USD / $960 CAD
“Our tests show it has very good processing speeds for office work and it has well-designed features that make it comfortable and convenient to use," De Leon said.
