Lions at Vikings: Initial injury reports

The Vikings have a long list again

NFL: Atlanta Falcons at Minnesota Vikings Harrison Barden-USA TODAY Sports

It’s time to get our coverage of this week’s Minnesota Vikings game started in earnest, as it’s time for this week’s first injury reports. The Detroit Lions are coming to town this week, and they’ve got some significant injury issues that they’re deal with. Since we start with the visiting team when we go over these reports, let’s get theirs up here first.

Detroit Lions

Did Not Participate

  • TE T.J. Hockenson (knee)
  • OT Penei Sewell (ankle)

Limited Participation

  • DT Michael Brockers (shoulder)
  • LB Trey Flowers (knee)
  • RB D’Andre Swift (groin)
  • RB Jamaal Williams (hip)

Full Participation

No players listed

Two of the Lions’ most significant injuries are not listed here, as the team has placed both pass rusher Romeo Okwara (Achilles) and center Frank Ragnow (toe) on injured reserve this week. Ragnow will eventually be back for Detroit, but Okwara’s season is over with. Sewell has struggled a bit in his rookie season, but you would have to think it’s a significant downgrade for the Lions if he’s not able to play on Sunday.

And now, on to the home team.

Minnesota Vikings

Did Not Participate

  • RB Dalvin Cook (ankle)
  • DT Michael Pierce (elbow)
  • WR Ihmir Smith-Marsette (toe)
  • LB Nick Vigil (ankle)

Limited Participation

No players listed

Full Participation

  • LB Anthony Barr (knee)
  • CB Bashaud Breeland (illness)
  • CB Kris Boyd (hamstring)
  • S Camryn Bynum (abdomen)
  • K Greg Joseph (right hip)
  • LB Eric Kendricks (hip)
  • G Oli Udoh (neck)
  • WR Dede Westbrook (quadriceps)

You’ll note that Christian Darrisaw is not even listed on the report for this week, so he would appear to be fully recovered from his injuries. I’m guessing that he still doesn’t start this week. . .still believe the target for him is after the bye. . .but we’ll see how that goes.

Cook has said that he’s going to continue playing through his ankle issues, while the loss of Pierce could be a significant issue for the team if it happens. If he has to sit out, I assume that Dalvin Tomlinson moves to the nose and we see more Sheldon Richardson at the three-technique.

Oh, and it looks like Anthony Barr might finally be back this week, as he’s fully participating in practice. This would be his first game since Week 2 of last year after missing 18 straight. We’ll see if it happens or not.

Those are the initial injury reports for the week, ladies and gentlemen. We’ll continue to monitor all of these injury issues throughout the week.
