It goes without saying that The Legend of Zelda inspired so many game developers and completely changed the genre of action-adventure. One of the most lauded franchises that takes from the series is now completely available on the Nintendo Switch thanks to the release of Darksiders III.
The Darksiders series is a post(current?)-apocalyptic franchise where you take control of one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse: War, Death, Strife, and, in Darksiders III, Fury. Each game kind of changes genres while still sticking with the Zelda-inspired story and puzzle-solving. Darksiders III strays furthest from this with a Dark Souls-esque gameplay style.
Much like the previous installments on the Switch (Darksiders: Warmastered Edition and Darksiders II: Deathinitive Edition), Darksiders III comes with both DLC packs even if it doesn’t come with a fun pun in its name (like “Darksiders III: Fury Loaded Edition”).
I’m a huge fan of the series. It’s genuinely my favorite only second to Zelda. However, III really was a bit lacking in execution. I bought it at launch for the PS4 and thought it was a little too difficult, especially coming off of the past two games. Thanks to patching and the addition of a more true-to-series battle style, it really balanced itself out after a while. It’s definitely worth picking up, along with the rest of the series. It’s a beautiful batch of games with some of the best lore writing in modern times.
