The Chevrolet Corvette Managed to Outsell Just About Every Car You Can Think of Last Month
Chevy just can’t keep the Chevrolet Corvette on showroom floors. The new mid-engined ‘Vette is selling like hotcakes. So much so, that it’s outselling many more traditionally popular vehicles like the Toyota 4Runner. If that doesn’t speak to the mass appeal of the brand’s newest sports car, nothing does. Moreover, it’s hard to argue with the new model’s V8 engine and killer looks.
The chip shortage has played a massive role in the demand for the new Corvette, and it’s safe to say the new C8 generation model is poised to be an even bigger success than the models that came before it.
How much is a 2021 Corvette?
Things are going to get weird right off the bat here. Turns out, it’s basically impossible to buy a 2021 Chevrolet Corvette at sticker price, much less find one. In fact, per iSeeCars, the newest ‘Vette sells for an average price of $89,788. Obviously, that’s well above the MSRP of $60,000. It’s a whole Toyota Camry above sticker.
And that points out exactly how popular the 2021 Chevrolet Corvette is. Chevy simply cannot meet demand. So, those with enough money are simply paying whatever it takes to get their hands on the hottest new sports car. Generally, that’s not advisable given that the ‘Vette isn’t some super-rare low-volume supercar. Chevy will always make more.
The Chevrolet Corvette out sells and out performs just about anything
That said, how quickly the Corvette sells, and what it’s selling faster than, is truly incredible. On average, it takes just over eight days for a new Corvette to sell. That’s faster than the new Ford Bronco can sell, and we all know how bad people want those. Or, more accurately, how badly people want to flip the new Bronco.
Other notable cars that the ‘Vette outpaces (both on the street and in sales speed) include the Toyota 4Runner, the Rav4, and even the Kia Telluride. These are all extremely popular vehicles with mass-market appeal, and yet a small enthusiast sports car is selling faster than any of them. It’s impressive to be sure, but 490 hp helps move not just cars, but units too.
It’ll be a while before your can buy a new ‘Vette
Unfortunately, that also means it’s going to be quite a while before Chevrolet can get you your brand new C8 Corvette. Recently, the brand had to stop Corvette production to catch up. Combine that and the chip shortage, and you’ve got a laundry list of reasons not to hold your breath for a new Corvette in your driveway.
