Gov. Stitt Returns To Oklahoma After Firsthand Look At Southern US Border

Governor Stitt joined nine other republican governors for a tour near Mission, Texas, just outside McAllen and across the Rio Grande from Reynosa.

MCALLEN, Texas -

Governor Kevin Stitt is back in Oklahoma after a trip to the United States-Mexico border on Wednesday.

The Governor met with nine other Republican governors near McAllen, Texas.

“It really shouldn’t be a Republican or Democrat issue. It’s a border security issue,” said Stitt.

McAllen, Texas, is an area seeing a huge influx of migrants crossing the border illegally, according to immigration officials.

U.S. Customs and Border Patrol said in the past year, they’ve encountered one million more people entering the U.S. illegally than the same time last year.

Stitt blames President Joe Biden’s administration and policy changes.

“All we have to do is change the policy that says if you want to seek asylum you can apply, but you are going to stay in Mexico,” said Stitt.

Stitt, along with 25 other governors who recently sent a letter to the president, are also suggesting other measures.

Some critics are calling the governor’s trip a publicity stunt since Oklahoma does not border Mexico.

Stitt though said Oklahomans are still feeling the impact as the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics reports most of the meth in the state crosses borders like this one.

“The methamphetamine that is coming into Oklahoma that’s just killing our kids that are getting people hooked is coming from Mexico it’s Mexico drugs,” said Stitt.

The governor will travel to Mexico City next month, but he said that trip will focus on commerce and the economy.
