Father's Response to Daycare That Felt His Newborn Should Dress More Girly Is Comedic Genius

Nothing is more obnoxious than back-seat parenting from strangers. It happens to the best of us, and sometimes it’s just easiest to let the comments roll off your back…unless you are Steve Rold, the father who received some shockingly unsolicited advice from the faculty at his then 1-month-old daughter’s daycare. Their suggestion? That he and his wife, Jessica, dress their daughter more like a girl. An eye-roll moment as obvious as this one deserves a proper rebuttal, and Rold successfully delivered.

In a Reddit post written by the father of two, Rold shared a photo of his sweet little girl looking adorable in all blue while donning a sticky note on her forehead with a bow drawn on it. He wrote, “How my wife dressed our daughter the day after the teachers at daycare told her we should really be dressing her more like a girl.” We salute you, Mr. and Mrs. Rold.

Luckily, Rold seems to be lighthearted and easy-going explaining to Bored Panda that despite the comment, he loves the daycare facility his child attends and reiterated that the situation was not a dramatic one—just an opportunity to push back against a singular comment. Rold also elaborated on the fact that they didn’t know their daughter’s sex until she was born, so in the meantime, they are dressing her in her older brother's hand-me-downs.

“Whether it’s a cultural or a generational thing, we completely understand that they were just trying to be helpful,” Rold told Bored Panda. “Maybe they thought that it hadn’t crossed our minds to dress our daughter any differently or perhaps they just didn’t want to answer a million questions from the other kids at the daycare as to why our baby isn’t dressed in pink and flowers. The suggestion was actually pretty mild but it was piled onto a hundred other similar ones that I’m sure all parents get so my wife just felt the need to push back a tiny bit.”

This didn’t stop other Reddit users to chime in with their own personal opinions on the interaction, relating it back to their own experiences.
