Grammy- and Oscar-winning songstress Adele has announced that she’ll be back with new music on October 15.
The “Rolling in the Deep” singer shared the news on Twitter, confirming that the song, “Easy on Me,” will be her first new release in nearly six years.
Adele shared a 21-second clip from the song’s upcoming music video alongside the announcement. Much like the accompanying her song “Hello,” the clip is in black and white and features slightly outdated technology in the form of a cassette tape. As the singer turns up her crackling car stereo, fans get a very brief glimpse at the song’s instrumental intro.
As the clip continues, Adele drives down a backcountry road as sheet music flies out from her open windows. A final shot shows the singer’s car pulling a trailer full of assorted goods, hinting that the tune might be another heartbreaker — which is Adele’s speciality after all.
The singer did not disclose whether fans can expect an album any time soon, but if the release model of her previous album, “25,” is any indication, a full album could be released next month.
Back in 2015, Adele dropped “Hello,” the album’s first single, in late October before the full album was released on November, 20.
She’s indicated that after “25,” her albums will no longer be named after her age when the record was made, telling James Corden during a “Carpool Karaoke” segment, “I believe in trilogies.” No word on what the new album might be called.
In early 2020, a video leaked of the singer performing at a friend’s wedding and she told attendees to “expect my album in September.” Like many artists did, however, Adele chose to delay the release in response to the coronavirus pandemic.
Later that year, when a fan on Instagram asked whether she’d be releasing the album soon, she wrote back: “Of course it’s not. Corona ain’t over. I’m quarantining. Wear a mask and be patient.”
Fall seems to be a friendly release date for the singer, as her single “Skyfall” was also released in October of 2012. She’d go on to win an Oscar for the tune, as it accompanied the James Bond flick of the same name.
She’s also won a total of 15 Grammys including 2008’s best female pop vocal performance and the coveted Best New Artist award. Her sophomore album, “21,” would bag her another five awards before “Skyfall,” a live performance of “Set Fire to the Rain” and the album “25” would round out her collection of trophies.
Adele has also made a play at the Emmys, having been nominated in 2016 for Outstanding Variety Special for her televised concert special, Adele Live in New York City. The award ultimately went to “Grease: Live.”
