WASHINGTON (SBG) — The 2021 BET Hip Hop Awards recognized some of the industry's biggest stars Tuesday night and honored their accomplishments over the past year.
The show was prerecorded at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center in Atlanta. Hosted by Karlous Miller, DC Young Fly, and Chico Bean (collectively known as the 85 South Show), the show was filled with performances, rap cyphers, and hilarious moments.
The show's biggest winners were Tyler, the Creator, Megan Thee Stallion, and Cardi B. Tyler, the Creator took home Hip Hop Album of the Year for "Call Me If You Get Lost," Best Live Performer, and Rock the Bells Cultural Influence award. Megan and Cardi B nabbed three awards for their "WAP" collaboration including Song of the Year, Best Hip Hop Video, and Best Collaboration.
Hip Hop legend Nelly was also honored during the evening with the I Am Hip Hop award, in recognition of his incredible 20-year career where he dozens of awards including three Grammys.
Other winners during the evening include J. Cole for Lyricist of the Year, Lil Baby and Lil Durk for Best Duo, and Yung Bleu for Best New Hip Hop Artist.
During the show, there were performances by Young Thug, Gunna, BIA, Baby Keem, Nelly, and more. The 2021 BET Hip Hop Awards wouldn't be complete without its annual award show cyphers where it gave fans a taste of some of the hottest up-and-coming artists such as Rico Nasty, Lakeyah, Sleepy Hallow, Smino, Fivio Foreign, D Smoke, and others.
