Billboard has announced that Billy Strings re-entered the “Emerging Artists” chart this week, reaching No. 1 for the first time ever. This achievement comes on the heels of Renewal, Strings’ latest album released on Friday, September 24th.

Arriving via Rounder Records, Renewal follows 2019’s Home, which won Strings his first-ever Grammy Award for “Best Bluegrass Album”. In addition to helping him take No. 1 on the “Emerging Artists” chart, Renewal also took the Bluegrass Albums chart’s top spot “with 10,000 equivalent album units earned,” Billboard reports. Additionally, the record hit No. 4 on the Americana/Folk Albums chart, No. 9 on the Country albums chart, and pushed him onto the Billboard 200 for the first time, slotting in at No. 82.

The formula for the Emerging Artists chart is the same one used for the Billboard Artist 100. It serves as a measure of activity across multiple Billboard charts like the Social 50, Hot 100, and Billboard 200, with a few caveats: The Emerging Artists chart excludes artists who have hit the top 25 on the Hot 100 or Billboard 200, artists with at least two top ten’s on the “Hot” song genre charts, or consumption based “Top” album genre rankings. Renewal, Strings’ fourth album, marks his second Bluegrass Albums chart-topper following Home‘s 25-week reign at number one in 2019.

In other Billy Strings news, the bluegrass phenom just celebrated the release of Renewal with a two-night celebration in Buena Vista, CO featuring Paul Hoffman (Greensky Bluegrass) Lindsay Lou, and more. His U.S. tour continues next week with a sold-out, three-night run at Denver, CO’s Mission Ballroom (10/14–10/17), followed by stints in Asheville, NC (10/29–10/31); Milwaukee, WI (11/3); Minneapolis, MN (11/4–11/5); Chicago, IL (11/6); and more.
