The ProRes support debuted in iOS 15.1 beta 3, which was released on Wednesday. Users running the beta can enable ProRes capture in the Settings app's Camera menu.

On the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max, ProRes can capture video at up to 30 fps in 4K quality and up to 60 fps in 1080p. However, iPhone 13 Pro models with 128GB of storage will be limited to 30 fps in 1080p.

Apple's native ProRes support comes two days after third-party app Filmic Pro introduced its own compatibility with the professional video codec. Filmic Pro also supports four different ProRes video modes: ProRes Proxy, ProRes LT, ProRes 422, and ProRes 422 HQ.

For the native Apple support, it appears that video capture has defaulted to ProRes 422HQ.

The third iOS 15.1 beta is currently available to registered developers. Apple will likely issue a public beta variant in the coming days.
