Woman hospitalized after hit-and-run, police searching for driver

The Salem Police Department is searching for a driver accused of hitting a woman with a car on Saturday and fleeing the scene.

A Salem patrol officer was passing the Oregon State Fairgrounds around 1:10 a.m. on Saturday when a group of people standing on 17th Street Northeast between Silverton Road Northeast and Woodrow Street Northeast flagged them down, a Tuesday news release said.

The officer found a woman lying in the street with another woman performing CPR on her.

“The officer quickly took over the resuscitative efforts until the woman’s breathing and pulse returned,” the news release said.

The victim, Juana Sebastian-Juan, 24 of Salem, was transported in an ambulance to Salem Hospital before being transferred to Legacy Emmanuel Medical Center for additional treatment.

Sebastian-Juan remained in the hospital with serious injuries as of 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Witnesses said someone in a white, late-model Ford pickup truck struck the woman and then fled the scene.

The car is a 2020-2022 Ford Super Duty, four-door crew cab pickup truck, the department said in an updated news release Wednesday. The crash damaged the car’s grill and left parts found at the scene, which helped the Salem police Traffic Team identify the make, model and year range. The parts and video obtained by the department indicate the car is either a King Ranch or Platinum model Ford pickup.

Surveillance video showed the truck traveled west on Sunnyview Road Northeast from 17th Street Northeast before turning north on Fairgrounds Road Northeast, then east on Silverton Road Northeast, the news release said. The car was last seen driving eastbound in the 4700 block of Silverton Road Northeast.

The Salem police Traffic Team asked any witnesses or people with information or surveillance video of the incident to contact the team’s hotline at 503-588-6293, according to the news release, which provided a video of the suspected vehicle. Callers can remain anonymous.

This post was updated after the Salem Police Department issued an additional news release Wednesday afternoon.
