Devils center Jack Hughes participated in the non-game group practice session Wednesday prior to the team's morning at RWJ Barnabas Health Hockey House in Newark.
Hughes, who has been out of the lineup since being cross checked by the New York's Ross Johnston last Saturday against the Islanders at Bridgeport, CT, skated on his own Tuesday, but Wednesday he participated in the full practice session.
Devils head coach Lindy Ruff hasn't ruled Hughes, 20, out of Thursday night's preseason finale against the Islanders at Prudential Center.
"A step in the right direction," Ruff said. "There is potential (he could play Thursday). We'll see how he feels. And balance if we want to risk for one game."
