Locke & Key is returning to Netflix for Season 2 on October 22, and in case your anticipation wasn’t already through the roof? Get ready for an absolutely epic Season 2 trailer.

In the new look at the streamer’s adaptation of Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez’s best-selling comic book series, things start off simply, with Nina Locke (Darby Stanchfield) setting up the premise of the show, most likely to an AA (Alcoholics Anonymous) group.

“My husband died last year,” Nina says. “And I moved my kids to the house where he grew up. The kids, they are doing great. But I can’t move on from things that still make no sense to me.”

The issue here is that what Nina doesn’t remember is the house is filled with magical keys, each with their own power; and while her children Bode (Jackson Robert Scott), Kinsey (Emilia Jones) and Tyler (Connor Jessup) can remember the magic of the keys, anyone over 18 immediately forgets. Not a great position for a recovering alcoholic to be in, but even worse given that a malevolent entity named Dodge (Laysla de Oliveira) attacked the family last season in order to gain possession of the Omega Key, which would allow her entrance to the Black Door — a portal to a dimension filled with demons just like her.

“You would tell me, wouldn’t you?” Nina continues to Kinsey. “If there was something going on?”

Of course, there is something going on… A lot of somethings, in fact. While the Locke kids think they got rid of Dodge in the Season 1 finale, they actually threw their gym teacher Ellie Whedon (Sherri Saum) through the Black Door, while Dodge masqueraded as Kinsey’s boyfriend Gabe (Griffin Gluck). And not only that, their frenemy Eden (Hallea Jones) was hit with a bit of Whispering Iron, the form the demons take when they enter “our” world, turning her into a demon just like Gabe.

Now, in Season 2, Gabe and Eden are teaming up to form a new, mysterious key that is unknown even to fans of the graphic novel source material. But based on this new trailer, it looks like Tyler might be forging a key of his own?

There are plenty of other huge moments in the trailer: what looks like the Small World Key, a key that when placed in a dollhouse replica of Keyhouse essentially allows one to view the real house in miniature; Uncle Duncan (Aaron Ashmore) using the Head Key, despite him not having any memory of the keys or their magic in Season 1; Gabe turning into some sort of awful, sharp-toothed monster; Gabe choking Eden and lifting her off the ground; some sort of bizarre, terrifying faceless doll people; and a quick shot of some Revolutionary War soldiers, which is exciting for fans of the comics, which heavily delved into the long history of Keyhouse that stretched back to the 1700s.

But the most ominous bit? Gabe saying “kill her” followed by Kinsey yelling “Tyler!” Kinsey seems blissfully unaware of Gabe’s demon nature at the end of Season 1, but what would happen if she found out? Would Gabe kill Kinsey, or at least try? Whatever happens, for fans of the comics — and the show — we’re in uncharted waters here. Fingers crossed the Lockes manage to survive the ride.
