Galaxy Z Fold 3, Flip 3 Start Receiving October Update In The US

The October 2021 Android security patch has reached Samsung smartphones in the US. The unlocked units of the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 foldables are now picking up this month’s security update stateside. The latest SMR (security maintenance release) first rolled out to the new foldables in Samsung’s homeland South Korea last week.

The US version of the unlocked Galaxy Z Fold 3 is receiving the October SMR with the firmware build number F926U1UES1AUI5. The same update for the clamshell folding counterpart has firmware version F711U1UES2AUI5. Both devices are unlikely to be getting any major user-facing improvements or new features apart from this month’s vulnerability fixes.

Talking about vulnerability fixes, Samsung has already confirmed that the latest SMR fixes more than 60 privacy and security issues. These include fixes for almost 40 issues found on Google’s Android OS. At least six of those are of critical severity.

Additionally, the latest security update also fixes 32 Samsung Vulnerabilities and Exposures (SVE) items. These vulnerabilities only affect Samsung smartphones and tablets. The company said three of the SVE items patched with the October SMR were of critical severity. You can find more details about the content of this month’s security update for Samsung devices here.

Nonetheless, if you’re rocking an unlocked variant of either of Samsung’s latest foldables in the US, the latest security update should be available for you anytime now if it hasn’t already. The update is rolling out nationwide regardless of which carrier network you’re currently using the phone on. You can check for it manually by navigating to Settings >> Software update on your phone and then tapping on Download and install.

Galaxy Note 10 is also receiving the October security update

The Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 may be the first Samsung smartphones to receive the October security update in the US, but the rollout in some other markets had begun early last week. The Galaxy S21, Galaxy S20, Galaxy Note 20, Galaxy Z Fold 2, Galaxy A50, Galaxy Tab Active 3, and a few other devices have picked up the new update since then. Earlier today, Samsung released the update to the Galaxy Note 10.

The 2019 Galaxy Note flagship is currently receiving the new SMR in a few Caribbean and Southe American countries. But you can expect the rollout to soon expand to other regions, including the US. As always, you should receive a notification of the new update. You can also manually check for updates by following the aforementioned steps.
