One of the biggest main events in GLORY Kickboxing history will have to wait.

Promotional officials revealed early Thursday morning that former UFC heavyweight title contender Alistair Overeem suffered an undisclosed injury and has been forced to withdraw from his championship bout with Rico Verhoeven on Oct. 23 at GLORY Collision 3.

No further announcement was made in regards to whether of not Verhoeven will get a replacement opponent, but GLORY did state that Overeem will be expected to make his promotional debut in early 2022.

Overeem signed with GLORY after parting ways with the UFC following a TKO loss to Alexander Volkov at UFC Vegas 18 in February. The nearly decade-long run with the UFC saw Overeem compile a 12-8 record in his 20 octagon appearances, which included victories over former world champions Brock Lesnar, Frank Mir, Junior dos Santos and Andrei Arlovski.

He signed with the UFC after a decorated run outside the octagon in which he captured titles in rival promotions Strikeforce and DREAM.
