Constantine inducts 18th Hall of Fame class

The 18th annual Hall of Fame banquet and induction ceremony for Constantine school athletics was held on Saturday. Rob Beachy, Kathy Messner, Nancy Hill, Adam Fletter, Krista Jones and members of the 1991 CHS softball team joined the Hall of Fame. They were also honored on Friday at Constantine’s homecoming game.

Former athletic director and Hall of Fame Chairman Mike Messner welcomed the athletes.

"These individuals honored showed outstanding achievement and service, contributing immensely to the great tradition of Constantine Athletics. Their hard work, positive attitude and dedication exemplify the pride, spirit and classy effort that are Constantine athletics. Constantine public schools are very proud of the Hall of Fame, showcasing athletics as a part of education," Messner said.

Superintendent Jim Wiseley served as master of ceremonies.

"The 18th Hall of Fame class will joint past Falcons that set the high standard of academics, athletics and upstanding citizenship. The Falcon Nation represents excellence. There is no greater honor in any area of athletics that is more rewarding than being named to an organization's Hall of Fame. The team and individuals honored tonight are true Falcons. To join is an honor and reflects the time, effort, and dedication and represents the spirit of all Falcons before them," he said.

Inducted were

  • Rob Beachy, a 1990 graduate. Beachy was a member of the track and football team, a four-year Varsity letter winner in track where he excelled in sprints. He was All League in 1989 and 1990, Regional Champion in the 100, 200, 400 dashes, a member of the 800-meter relay team, Station Champion in the 400-meter dash. He placed 4th in the 100 and 6th in the 200, and was All League in football in 1987 and 1988.
  • Kathy Messner has been involved in the community since 1991, coaching JV and Varsity cheerleading from 1992-1997, middle school cheerleading 3 years, middle school volleyball and high school tennis. She has been involved in over 124 MHSAA events. She is the president of Meek's Mill Garden Club, in the Constantine Area Community Foundation, has won the Rotary Paul Harris Award and the Modern Woodman Hometown Heroes Award.
  • Nancy Hill, a 1968 graduate. Hill has been involved in athletics since returning to teach at Riverside Elementary in 1973 as Girl's Track coach for 2 years and Assistant Track Coach for 17 years. She's volunteered doing sports bookkeeping, and worked at football and softball tournaments. She started Girl's on the Run at Riverside, and also was involved in starting the Women's Volleyball league in the early 1980's.
  • Adam Fletter, a1987 graduate. Fletter was a 3-sport athlete, participated in football, wrestling and track from 1983-1987. He was All State 3 times, and medaled 5 times at the State Track Meet, was a 1,000-yard runner with a 7.1 average per carry. HE was All League in football in 1986 and 1987, regional qualifier in wrestling in 1986 and 1987, and selected as "Sturgis Journal Athlete of the Year" in 1987.
  • Krista Jones, a 1998 graduate. Jones competed in basketball, softball, track, volleyball and cheerleading. She excelled in basketball and softball was a 4-year Varsity award winner from 1994 through 1997 in basketball, All Conference in 1996 and 1997, and St. Joe Valley All Area Team in 1997. She was chosen for the All Star basketball team in 1998, was a 2-year Varsity award winner in softball, and selected All Conference in 1998. She was in numerous school activities and selected as 1998 Salutatorian.
  • 1991 Softball Team--the first softball team in school history for boys or girls to play in a Quarterfinal game. They finished 17-13 with 7 one-run losses to Class A and B schools, and were recognized as an Academic All-State Team in 1991. Team members are Holly Seales, Crystal Eash, Tammy Miller, Shelly Haney, Tish Holdcraft, Wendy Eash, Freida Sullivan, Tressie Bievins, Krista Kelly, Kim Weiss, Heather Seales, Tera Mercer, Jenny Bowerman and Gloria Hulse. Coach was Gary Rodewald.

The Hall of Fame accepts nominations starting immediately, through May 1 of the following year.
