Capcom’s Monster Hunter Rise continues to be major hit in its first year. The Nintendo Switch title has been making some serious waves in the video game community, especially after the absolute juggernaut that was Monster Hunter: World just a couple of years ago. It seems that Monster Hunter Rise is able to stand on its own as Capcom has announced that the title has now shipped more than 7.5 million units worldwide.
Considering that the game is only available on one system, and has yet to release for PC through Steam, this is an insane achievement. To give some perspective, Monster Hunter Rise originally launched on March 26, 2021. Only week later it was announced that the game had successfully shipped more than 5 million copies. One month later, the game reached 7 million copies shipped. Now it has crossed the 7.5 million threshold a few months later, showing that despite the restriction of hardware availability, the title has more than enough going for it to be considered one of the better titles in 2021.
Capcom also reiterated that Monster Hunter Rise was also the co-recipient of the Grand Award in the Games of the Year Division of the Japan Game Awards of this year. This took place during the end of the Tokyo Games Show 2021, with the other recipient being Sucker Punch’s Ghost of Tsushima. They also announced that the remake of Resident Evil 3 was honored with the Award for Excellence during this. In short, Capcom’s franchises, Monster Hunter and Resident Evil, in particular, are keeping in line with the company’s recent surge of success which began in 2018 with, yes you guessed it, Monster Hunter: World.
Monster Hunter Rise is available now for the Nintendo Switch. A Steam release is scheduled for a release date on January 12, 2022.
