The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services started reporting COVID-19 reinfections along with case counts this week.

According to the CDC, a reinfection is a case of lab-confirmed coronavirus in someone who had laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 at least 90 days earlier.

From March 1 through September 20, NCDHHS data shows 10,812 reinfections and 200 post-vaccination reinfections.

The numbers also show that 94 people died after they came down with the virus a second time or about .6 percent of the state's total COVID-19 deaths.
