There's some bad news for survival game fans: the Icarus release date has been delayed to December 2021, although you won't have to wait too long to play the next game from Day Z creator Dean Hall.
Icarus was first revealed at the PC Gaming Show last year. Much like Day Z, Dean Hall has grand designs for the survival genre with Icarus' session-based, cooperative gameplay that opens up a lot of possibilities. Thus far, we've got a good look at the game's talent tree and a handful of beta tests along with a release date delay to November 2021. Now, Rocketwerkz has announced that it's delaying the launch again to December.
Why is There Another Icarus Release Date Delay?
Simply put, the sheer amount of feedback that Rocketwerkz has received has resulted in them making the decision to push back the Icarus release date and ensure that they get everything right.
"You, the players, have given us more insight, feedback, love, and support than we could have ever imagined," read a Steam Community news post. "We’ve aimed to reciprocate this in our work on the game, making an array of updates and changes to ensure each weekend is an improvement on the last. We’re feeling confident about our progress towards Icarus’ 1.0 launch."
The Beta Weekend schedule is also shifting forward by two weeks as a consequence of this change. Players will get to experience a new three-part mission on the weekend of October 9-11 and they'll get an additional 24 hours to play it, too.
When is the Icarus Release Date?
The new Icarus release date is December 4, 2021. That said, Rocketwerkz notes that this date is still subject to change -- it may end up pushing back the launch even further than this.
Although there will be a long wait for the core game, you can still pre-purchase it now and get to participate in the various beta weekends coming over the next several months. You can pre-purchase Icarus on Steam for $26.99 or your regional equivalent, a 10% pre-launch discount.
