Alleged fake vaccine card reportedly at centre of NHL investigation into Evander Kane

The NHL recently cleared Evander Kane of the San Jose Sharks from accusations of gambling on NHL games, and sometimes his own games, made by his ex-wife. While announcing that investigation had ended, unless new information comes forward, the league also stated it had opened a new one that related to COVID protocols. The NHL did not elaborate, but a new report from Front Office Sports claims it has to do with an alleged fake vaccine card Kane submitted to the Sharks.

The NHL has not mandated that players be vaccinated. However, those who chose not to are subject to losing pay for any games they miss due to quarantine rules for unvaccinated people. While the league wouldn't comment on FOS's report, if the allegation is proven true it's likely Kane could be facing some serious repercussions. According to FOS, counterfeit vaccine cards are illegal in both the US and Canada.

Kane is not taking part in the Sharks' training camp, and if there is truth to this allegation, there's a decent chance we never see Kane in the NHL again. Kane has had a terrible year off the ice, starting with filing for bankruptcy back in January, at which point court documents revealed he had dealt with a gambling problem and racked up plenty of debt while doing it. Kane admitted to the gambling problem himself in a recent interview with ESPN, but stressed he sought help and the issue is under control. There's also the case of an extremely messy divorce from his estranged wife Anna, who has alleged both physical and sexual assault at the hands of her husband in court papers. Kane has also alleged that Anna hit him repeatedly while they were together.
