High Schools: DiMarcantonio’s goal holds up for Springfield

Standard Digital Access

Sophia DiMarcantonio and Maddie Kane supplied the offense, and Charlieze Garret stood tall in goal as Springfield downed Haverford, 1-0, in Central League field hockey action Tuesday to snap the Fords’ five-game winning streak.

DiMarcantonio tallied the only goal off a feed from Kane. Garret made that goal stand up as the winner with 11 saves.

Elsewhere in the Central League:

Lower Merion 4, Ridley 1 >> Avery Bickell led the Aces with one goal and one assist. Abbie Venit had the goal for the Green Raiders while goalie Maddie Gordon made 12 saves.

In the Inter-Ac League:

Episcopal Academy 6, Penn Charter 0 >> Ashley Sessa, Mia Garber and Macy Szukics powered the Churchwomen.

Sessa had two goals and one assist. Garber tallied three times and Szukics pitched in with two assist. Fiona Husain closed out the scoring for EA with an assist from Kristen May.

In the Bicentennial League:

Delco Christian 1, Plumstead Christian 0 >> Sahdahya Addy’s goal with five minutes left won it for the Knights.

In nonleague action:

Agnes Irwin 2, Cardinal O’Hara 1 >> Caroline Chisholm scored in the fourth quarter to lift the Owls over the Lions. Isabella Carlino opened the scoring for AIS in the second quarter.

Lexi Culp found the back of the cage in the third quarter to tie the game for O’Hara.

C.B. East 13, Interboro 0 >> Goalie Mackena Harley made 37 saves for the Bucs (5-6 overall, 4-0 Del Val).

Girls Cross Country

Kathryn Lynn and Brianna Bellinghien led the way as Episcopal Academy topped Germantown Academy (25-30) and Agnes Irwin (23-32) in the Inter-Ac League.

Lynn was first in 20:50 and Bellinghien took third in 22:16. Oliva Helding and Orchie Hasan placed fourth and fifth, respectively, for Agnes Irwin, which also fell to GA, 26-29.

Boys Cross Country

Michael Woolery, Aidan McHugh and Dakin Ebmeyer led the way as Episcopal Academy topped Haverford School, 23-35.

Woolery was first, McHugh second and Ebmeyer fifth for the Churchmen, who has six runners finish in the top 10. Colin Stewart took third and Ben Szathmary fourth for the Fords.

Girls Volleyball

Senior captains Golda Mehl and Jenna Zwilling led the way as Agnes Irwin defeated Germantown Academy, 3-0.

Mehl had 14 digs, seven kills and five aces. Zwilling contributed 13 assists and seven kills in the 25-21, 25-20, 25-23 victory.

In the Catholic League:

Cardinal O’Hara 3, Conwell-Egan 0 >> Maggie Doogan and Bridget McGuinn helped the Lions bounce back from a 3-1 loss to Hatboro-Horsham on Monday.

Doogan collected 14 kills and five blocks. She had eight kills and three blocks the night before against the Hatters. McGuinn posted 10 digs, eight kills and two aces one night after she had 11 kills, nine digs and one ace.

Jasmine Sullivan (nine kills, three digs, one ace), Juliana Cloran (13 assists, six aces, five digs, three kills) and Corrine Lacey (13 digs, six aces) also came up big for the Lions.

Girls Tennis

Michelle Jiang did not lose a game at third singles to pace Episcopal Academy to a 5-2 victory over Penn Charter.

Ashley Kennedy (first singles), Maddy Mitchell and Maggie Dugery (first doubles), Carter Yearley and Maggie Lo (second doubles) and Riya Muherjee and Stefania Calastri (fourth doubles) also won in straight sets for the Churchwomen.

In nonleague action:

Ridley 5, Sun Valley 2 >> Seniors Cameran Bender, Meadow Pinter, Jaela Nguyen and Vesper Robinson paced the Green Raiders on senior day.

Bender won 6-4 6-1 at first singles. Pinter and Nguyen were 6-0, 6-2 winners at second doubles and Robinson teamed with Christina Bui for a 6-1, 6-0 victory at fourth doubles.

Boys Water Polo

Senior captain Luka Sekulic collected four goals, three assists and four steals as Haverford School rolled over Malvern Prep, 22-7.

Freshman Gavin Cooper contributed three goals, one assist and one steal. Jack LaRocca pitched in with three goals and three assists, while Bram Schork, Ben McDade, Luke Putter and Max Marr pitched in with two goals and one assist each.
