The Falcons will travel across the pond to play the Jets in London for Week 5, but they’ll be without a few key players and joined by a couple of new names. Most notably, the team placed Isaiah Oliver on the IR after this gruesome play.

Sources tell Michael Rothstein of ESPN that it is expected to be a season-ending injury that will require surgery.

Oliver was playing some of the best football of his career after moving inside to the nickel role full time. He looked much more comfortable and was making impact plays in the run game while also defending the pass well. It is unfortunate for him because he’ll be a free agent next year, with his future in Atlanta uncertain.

Fifth-round pick Avery Williams replaced Oliver during the Washington game, and he played well. The rookie only allowed two catches for 14 yards on four targets. Richie Grant and Darren Hall could see more snaps in Oliver’s absence, but Williams will likely get the call this week against New York.

Cam Nizialek also went down with a leg injury against Washington. If you remember, Younghoe Koo had to punt after the Falcons’ second-to-last offensive possession. Nizialek was also placed on the IR, and in response, the Falcons elevated Dustin Colquitt and Mike Pennel from the practice squad to the 53-man roster.

The Falcons could use some better play out of Tyeler Davison, so hopefully, Pennel gets some reps in early down situations. Still, the most concerning thing to monitor is Oliver’s replacement.
