Far Cry 6 Multiplayer Teaser

Far Cry 6 QR Codes Potentially Tease New Game in Brief Six Second Video, May Be a Free-to-Play Multiplayer Battle Royale Game

Far Cry 6 hasn’t even released to the general public yet, but that hasn’t stopped in-game teasers for new Far Cry content from appearing on the internet. As spotted by ResetEra, Youtuber JorRaptor located some QR codes early into the game. (Editor’s Note: We’ve also found these same QR codes scattered around during our review period with Far Cry 6.) When scanned, these led to a brief six second teaser that appears to show a new Far Cry game, perhaps even focused on multiplayer rather than the usual single-player offerings.

The Far Cry 6 QR code can be found on wooden crates in an area accessible towards the start of Far Cry 6, as well as scattered across the entire map. Players can then use their real phone to scan the QR code, which links to a site containing the teaser. Beginning with a cartoon gun chamber, the video then moves on to a map with multiple arrow icons and different animal markers. When one of the arrows—seemingly an icon representing a player—moves towards an animal marker, they’re attacked by some sort of armored or futuristic big cat, leading to their death. All of the arrows then switch to skull icons, and a gun shot and blood spatter appear on the screen. You can see the teaser in the video below:

Every QR code leading to this video is on a wooden crate next to the number 1024, which many believe is referencing October 24th, potentially the full reveal for this teaser or at least unlocking the next step in this puzzle. However, October 24th 2021 is a Sunday, making it an odd day for a reveal or release. (For what it’s worth, October 24th, 2022 is a Monday, also an unusual release date.)

Ubisoft is known for releasing spin-off Far Cry titles after their numbered entries. There was Far Cry New Dawn, Far Cry Primal, and Far Cry Blood Dragon, the latter of which is being remastered and is included with the Far Cry 6 Season Pass. There was also Far Cry: New Dawn, a direct sequel to Far Cry 5. Many surmise this will be another spin-off title, perhaps even a multiplayer title seeing as there were multiple arrow icons in the teaser. Some even think it could be a free-to-play battle royale game based on how Ubisoft has been embracing this model recently.

Others believe the teaser may be a reference to the Episode 2 – Pagan: Control DLC. The DLC will put players in the role of Far Cry 4 villain Pagan Min as they investigate his back story. The temple-like buildings on the map and the various references to exotic animals, especially an attack by a big cat, do seem to favor this theory. Right now, however, anything regarding this small Far Cry 6 QR code teaser is purely speculative, and Ubisoft is focusing on getting Far Cry 6 out the door later this week.

Episode 2 is  due to arrive in January 2022. It will be preceded by Episode 1 -Vaas: Insanity dedicated to Far Cry 3 villain Vaas Montenegro. Far Cry 5‘s villain Joseph Seed will conclude the Season Pass DLC offerings with Episode 3 – Joseph: Collapse. There will also be plenty of free post-launch content for the game, including Crossover Missions with Rambo, Stranger Things, and actor Danny Trejo. Meanwhile, you can take a look at the in-game teasers for yourself when Far Cry 6 launches on October 7.
