New York Giants offensive lineman Nick Gates will reportedly undergo a sixth surgery on his left leg, which he broke in the Giants Week 2 loss to the Washington Football Team.
I was told last week that Gates is out of the hospital. He needed 1 more surgery, which would be 6 total. I know the “career-ending” talk was a surprise to him. He expects to be back. Robinson is out until at least Week 7. Smith is eligible to return but still on side at practice https://t.co/suBELRxCgW

Gates, 25, has played every position on the Giants’ offensive line in his four years here and was named a team captain before the season.
Gates’ injuries were initially reported to be ‘career-ending‘ and unfortunately that may end up being true. However, at the moment, Gates and the team remain optimistic due to his age.
As for the two rookies mentioned by Duggan — cornerback Aaron Robinson and linebacker Elerson Smith — the Giants are expecting the two to contribute at some point this season.
