Considering George and Amal Clooney have been living off Lake Como for years, one would think that their Italian would be pretty good by now. But apparently, their language skills are nothing compared to their twins’, and that’s precisely the problem.
While attending the premiere of The Tender Bar on Sunday, the new film directed by Clooney, he gave a little update on his children’s latest accomplishments to E! News’ Daily Pop. The actor revealed that his four-year-olds, Ella and Alexander, are now swimming and also bilingual. “They speak fluent Italian,” Clooney said, “but Amal and I do not. That’s a flaw in our logic, right there.” The Oscar winner added that although having to film during a pandemic raised a particular set of challenges, there was one major benefit—his children couldn’t interrupt the shoot. “Usually the kids show up and ruin a take,” he said with a laugh.
The couple also spoke to Entertainment Tonight on the film’s red carpet, explaining that lockdown has been “fine” for them since the twins are still so young, but Clooney has been using the opportunity to teach them how to play pranks on people. “You just feel so bad for the world and all of that, you know? But our kids are four and they were two-and-a-half when it started so you know, they weren’t missing out on much out in the world,” he said. “So, you know, I didn’t have to teach them trigonometry at home.” Amal added that her husband is actually a “great” teacher, it’s just that, “He’s mainly teaching pranks for the time being. But we’ll see if it develops.” Clooney quipped, “Well, I think those can really pay off over time.”
