What you need to know

  • Microsoft announced five new Surface devices in September 2021, four of which are now available for purchase.
  • The Surface Laptop Studio, Surface Pro 8, Surface Go 3, and Surface Pro X are now available.
  • The Surface Duo 2 won't be available until October 22, 2021.

Microsoft's Surface Laptop Studio, Surface Pro 8, and Surface Go 3 are now available for purchase. The Surface Laptop Studio introduces a new form factor while the Surface Pro 8 and Surface Go 3 update Microsoft's 2-in-1 lineups. The Surface Pro X didn't receive a design overhaul or spec update, but starting today, you can order a more affordable model without LTE.

Note that some retailers may not take orders for the new devices until later today, October 5, 2021. At the time of publication, orders are live on Microsoft and Best Buy's websites.

The Surface Laptop Studio is a non-detachable 2-in-1. You can pull its screen forward to switch it into different modes. It's also the most powerful Surface device ever, according to Microsoft. Our executive editor Daniel Rubino runs the device through its paces in his Surface Laptop Studio review

The Surface Pro lineup has been around for 10 years. The Surface Pro 8 refines the lineup's design with a larger display and thinner bezels. It's also significantly more powerful than the Surface Pro 7. You can read more about the new 2-in-1 in our Surface Pro 8 review.

The Surface Go 3 has the same form factor and design as its predecessor but now has better hardware under the hood. Its Intel Core i3 model is 60% faster than the original Surface Go 2.

The Surface Pro X has a model without LTE connectivity that brings its starting price down. There aren't any other changes to the Surface Pro X lineup, but the model with only Wi-Fi connectivity is now available for order.
