Oct. 5 (UPI) -- Off-season addition Kyle Lowry showed just how easily he fits in with the Miami Heat by feeding big man Bam Adebayo for a highlight-reel, reverse alley-oop dunk in the team's first preseason game of 2021.
The slam came in the second quarter of the Heat's 125-99 win Monday at FTX Arena in Miami. Adebayo scored 14 points in the victory. Lowry dished out seven assists.
"Me and Kyle didn't play on the same team as much in practice, but when we're on the same team it was like an instant click," Adebayo told reporters.
"We are two high-IQ players. It's not that hard to figure out. He knows how I like to play. I know how he likes to play."
The Heat led 50-44 with 5:40 remaining in the first half when Lowry dribbled near half court. He threw an overhead pass just as he reached the 3-point arc. The feed fell in toward the right side of the rim.
Adebayo eyed the pass and timed his jump as soon as he reached the paint. He grabbed the ball with both hands, did a mid-air turn and stuffed his shot through the rim.
The Heat outscored the Hawks 41-26 in the quarter and led 74-58 at halftime. The Heat outscored the Hawks 51-41 over the final 24 minutes of the victory.
Heat guard Tyler Herro scored a game-high 26 points in the win. Max Strus and Duncan Robinson chipped in 14 and 13 points, respectively.
Lowry scored five points and pulled down five rebounds, in addition to his seven assists. Trae Young, John Collins and Danilo Gallinari scored 14 points apiece for the Hawks.
Lowry joined the Heat in August through a trade with the Toronto Raptors. He told reporters in his postgame news conference that he chose to join the franchise so he could compete for a championship.
"With the organization and the coaching down here, it's really championship or bust," Lowry told reporters. "[Heat president] Pat Riley believes that if you aren't playing for a championship, what are you playing for?"
The Heat face the Houston Rockets in their second preseason game at 10 p.m. EDT Thursday in Houston. The Hawks host the Cleveland Cavaliers at 7:30 p.m. EDT Wednesday in Atlanta.
