Since 2012, one game has been played by two teams to determine who takes the Wild Card spot into the playoffs. On Tuesday, two teams who have a long and storied history against one another to see who makes their way into the American League Playoffs, as the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox faceoff in the AL Wild Card Game.
The drama that led up to this meeting was quite entertaining. Both teams had to win on the final day of the regular season to avoid playing a potential 163rd game of the season against the Toronto Blue Jays. The Yankees made it happen thanks to a walk-off single from Aaron Judge to beat the Tampa Bay Rays.
The BoSox trailed the Washington Nationals 5-1 on Sunday, before storming back to tie the game. Then, in the top of the ninth, Rafael Devers hit a two-run shot to give Boston the 7-5 win.

The two teams tied for second in the AL East with 92-70 records. While the Yankees lost two of three to the Rays to end the regular season, they had a seven-game win streak late last month to help them stay in the Wild Card race, The Red Sox won four of their final five games of the regular season, sweeping the Nationals to stay alive.
As if there needs to be anymore drama, the season series between the two rivals has been extremely tight, with the Red Sox going 10-9 against the Bronx Bombers in 2021.
