The Montreal Canadiens are just over a week away from their first game of the 2021-22 season.

After a trip to the Stanley Cup Final last season, the Habs will be looking to get off to a quick start when they face the Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday, October 13th.

As they gear up for that season opener, they have dealt with a number of injuries and to key players in the lineup.

It all started shortly after the 2021 Stanley Cup Final ended when it was announced Shea Weber would miss the entire upcoming season with several injuries. He battled through foot, ankle and hip injuries all playoffs that required surgery in the offseason and his NHL career is suddenly in jeopardy now.

Carey Price was next as it was announced he also needed surgery in the offseason, but they thought he may be available for the start of training camp.

The Habs have also had more minor injuries to deal with during camp but to some key players. They provided updates on those injuries and there was some good news, but some bad news as well.

Price is starting to look like he will miss the beginning of the season. He took a few days off after skating to see if any swelling appeared and yesterday he was out with an illness. Price’s injury history and details given by the team would lead anyone to become sceptical and this situation is starting to make fans worry. However, the team is adamant that Price won’t miss much time, if any.

Cole Caufield missed about a week after something odd happened in the warmup of the team’s Red vs White game last Sunday. He just sort of fell and slowly slid into the boards but then it was announced he would not play and would be out for a few days. Well, it sounds like he is now back to 100% which is terrific to hear.

Also on the good news front is that Mike Hoffman is set to begin skating. Dominique Ducharme said that Hoffman, who failed his medical on day one of camp, will be skating sometime this week. Not much was announced about his injury other than it was lower body so it is good news that he is able to begin skating soon. He is still not going to be ready for the regular season opener but he should be back shortly after.

The player’s injury that is becoming more concerning is Joel Edmundson. He was supposed to be day-to-day on the first day of camp but that was two weeks ago and the team announced yesterday that he isn’t getting worse, but he isn’t any better either.
