Monster Hunter has fast become Cacpom’s most lucrative franchise over the past few years, which has been highlighted again this week with the announcement of yet another impressive sales milestone. Monster Hunter Rise, the Nintendo Switch exclusive that launched back in March of 2021, has now exceeded 7.5 million units shipped worldwide.

The news comes by way of a press release recapping both Monster Hunter Rise and Resident Evil 3’s winning of two different awards during the Japan Game Awards: 2021. Monster Hunter Rise was awarded the Grand Award in the Games of the Year Division of the Japan Game Awards: 2021 (held by the Computer Entertainment Supplier’s Association), while Resident Evil 3 was honored with an Award for Excellence. The prizes were announced at Tokyo Game Show 2021 Online, which was held from September 30 through October 3.

The press release reads in part:

Monster Hunter Rise, winner of the Grand Award, is a Monster Hunter title released in March 2021 for Nintendo Switch. The game was developed to provide a new, accessible Monster Hunter experience that can be enjoyed anytime, anywhere and with anyone. In addition to new monsters and locales, the game provides a completely fresh take on the hunting experience through a host of new, exhilarating hunting actions made possible with the Wirebug as well as with the debut of new “canyne” hunting partners called Palamutes, all of which garnered acclaim from players, resulting in shipments of more than 7.5 million units worldwide.

Earlier this year Twinfinite reported Monster Hunter Rise shipments had already totaled 5 million just a month after its launch, while later in July Capcom cited the game as one of the major contributors to the publisher’s strong first quarter of fiscal 201.
