Ding! It's your friendly reminder that October's PlayStation Plus free games are now available to download and play. Just be warned that many consider it to be an... uneven month.
It's something of a shame. September was a real step up for subscribers when they learned the excellent Overcooked! All You Can Eat would be the free PlayStation 5 title. Meanwhile, PlayStation 4 users spent the month dining out on the equally excellent Hitman 2 and the slightly less excellent Predator: Hunting Grounds. Not a bad mix, with a little something for everyone.
October's games have been met with less acclaim, I think it's fair to say. Starting today, PlayStation 5 users can download the popular World War II shooter Hell Let Loose, which is making its console debut after years as a PC exclusive. This is a pretty solid addition to the lineup, but the free PlayStation 4 games - Mortal Kombat X and PGA Tour 2K21 - have gone down less well.

"Ridiculous. This game is literally six years old," wrote one user of Mortal Kombat X. "Not only that, they gave us standard edition which is a bigger insult! The game is good, is just, they could have given the more complete edition of it."
"Pretty insulting to give us X and not XL when the game is so old and most people who like fighting games would have already bought it or Mortal Kombat 11 by now," added another user before admitting "it could have been worse". They're not wrong. Sony could've given you Mortal Kombat 9.
Anyway, whether you're into this month's free games or not ain't my business. I'm just here to tell you they're available to download via the PlayStation Store now. Take 'em or leave 'em. There's always next month, I guess.
