Scott Baio Defends Wife Renee After Her Sandy Hook Comments Resurface

Scott Baio and his wife Renee Sloan are today engaging in a war of words on Twitter with musician Richard Marx, after their comments about the Sandy Hook tragedy resurfaced.

The Happy Days actor and former Hollywood heartthrob has courted controversy in recent years and is known for his conservative views and large social media presence.

On Monday night, the actor took to Twitter to defend his wife over a controversial conspiracy theory about the Sandy Hook elementary school shooting.

This week's Twitter firestorm stems from Baio and his wife sharing the conspiracy theory that Sandy Hook parents were actors back in 2017.

In August of that year, Baio suggested the mother of Vicki Soto, a teacher murdered in the mass shooting in Newton, Connecticut, and the mother of Charlottesville, Virginia victim, Heather Heyer, were portrayed by the same actress.

Baio quickly backtracked and apologized, but his wife, Renee, told the mother of one of the Sandy Hook victims: "Maybe your children are in a better place," per Kiro 7.

The couple received widespread social media backlash for the incident at the time.

Now, a Twitter spat with Marx has seen the controversy resurface.

"@MrsScottBaio, you and your degenerate husband attacked parents of a murdered child. You directed hate against yourselves. And still, I actually sympathize with your illness just as much as you couldn't sympathize with those grief-stricken souls who'd just buried their kids," Marx tweeted.

Sloan and Baio have condemned Marx for resurfacing the Sandy Hook comments as Sloan is currently battling a serious illness.

"I hope Mr. @richardmarx is happy with the amount of vile targeted hate he's sending to me. I live with 3 brain tumors, chronic fatigue syndrome, vertigo, & seizures. (Along with chronic pain everyday of my life). I hope you've achieved exactly what you set out to do & are happy!" Sloan tweeted.

While Baio asked Marx: "Pretty low to target my wife @richardmarx. Do you feel better now?"

Baio opened up about his wife's brain tumor diagnosis at the age of 48 late in 2020.

"Just a few days ago we learned my wife, Renee has a meningioma brain tumor," Baio, 54, wrote on Facebook, per People.

"Although 90 percent of these type of tumors are benign they can cause serious problems depending on the size of the tumor and the location. We are waiting to learn the exact location to see if it's operable."

"Renee has been down some rough roads in her life, yet each time with her strong faith in God, she comes through a better and stronger person," he continued.

"During this time we ask for your prayers and support. My wife is my rock. She refuses to even shed one tear, nor will she question God's will. Renee, Bailey and I will get through this and along the way maybe help educate others to get checked out (MRI with contrast) as 6,500 people each year, mostly women get these tumors."
