As if one critically-panned vehicular combat game isn't enough, Sony is entrusting the future of beloved IP Twisted Metal Remake to Destruction All-Stars developers Lucid Games reports the VGC.

We're sure that a lot of fans will feel excited about the prospect of Twisted Metal coming back. However, any of this excitement might subside when they find out that it's being developed by Lucid Games. While Destruction All-Stars was, quite frankly, a decent game in its core, a disastrous launch and a terrible marketing campaign led to it being abandoned by players a few months after release. The financial failure would even lead Twisted Metal‘s original director David Jaffes to say he doesn't believe in these rumors, stating:

“I think Sony got a bloody nose financially from [Destruction All-Stars], so I don’t think they’re sat around saying, ‘let’s try another car combat title… and let’s try one that historically has only done well in one territory’. I don’t see that.”

The Twisted Metal franchise hasn't seen a new game in almost a decade, with its last release, Twisted Metal: Black being a critical success and moderate financial success. The series will be revived with a new TV show starring Anthony Mackie in the works for 2023. If the rumors about the Twisted Metal Remake were to be true, VGC‘s sources believe that its release will coincide with the live-action TV series.
