Suns: Chris Paul might not be happy with Monty Williams' latest statement

Monty Williams gives a preview of how the Suns offense might look like next season and Chris Paul could be getting a decreased role -- at least on scoring.

Chris Paul remains to be one of the most important players on the Phoenix Suns roster right now. The fact that they signed him to a massive $120 million extension over the summer is a clear testament to this fact.

Nevertheless, there's also no denying that CP3 is nearing the tail end of his career. As such, this might just lead to a more limited role for the Suns this coming season — at least when it comes to being a primary option on offense.

Phoenix head coach Monty Williams recently opened up about his plans for the coming season. Right now, the 49-year-old shot-caller is very high on incoming fourth-year wing Mikal Bridges. So much so, that Williams is considering making the 6-foot-6 forward the team's third option on offense:

“The work ethic allows for him to continue to grow. Just a tireless worker. He’s one of those guys we have to kick out of the gym,” Williams said, via Bright Side of the Sun.

“I know he’s going to continue to add to his game. I knew what he could do with cutting and moving without the ball, but now he’s got used to playing with the ball and we need him to. We want to put him in environments that allow for him to be a third option for us on any given night and I think he’s capable.”

Devin Booker is the Suns' clear No. 1 option on offense. Based on what we've seen from him last season, Deandre Ayton could be Williams' No. 2 guy. If Bridges is promoted as the third option, then this could lead to Chris Paul being No. 4.

It is also possible that CP3 emerges as the No. 2 option for the Suns, which means that it could be Ayton being the fourth man up “on any given night.” Be that as it may, what is clear is that Bridges is going to be playing a bigger role for Phoenix in 2021-22.

As for Chris Paul, he's proven time and again that he's willing and very much able to do whatever it takes to help his team. If he's not going to be a top scoring option for the Suns then he probably won't have any problems with this. Being that he is Chris Paul, the 36-year-old veteran will still be able to make an impact for his squad without scoring in bunches.
