New movies are breaking records at the box office.

It has been more than a year since movie theaters in New Jersey were allowed to reopen. But many movie theater operators say that there have not been enough movies to show.

Now that is all beginning to change. “Venom: Let There Be Carnage” made $90 million in its opening weekend, setting a pandemic-era record.

The staff at independently owned Teaneck Cinemas noticed.

“We went from selling a few seats a day to practically a packed house. It was such a surge,” says manager Harvey Rivera.

Other highly anticipated movies that will be coming out soon include Daniel Craig’s final James Bond movie, which comes out on Friday, and later this month, “Dune.”

But “The Sopranos” prequel “The Many Saints of Newark” fell below box office expectations with $5 million. The movie is also available on HBO Max.
