Shane Duffy has said that luck has helped spark his revival at Brighton. The central defender spent last year on loan at Celtic and struggled but has become a mainstay under Graham Potter at the Premier League side.

Speaking to The Record, Duffy said that he was grateful for Potter’s re-introduction into the first team affairs.

“I’m really grateful for it. A lot of managers, if it doesn’t work out and especially the year I had performance-wise, I could have been with the 18s, 23s and then been finding a new club,”

“I got a bit of luck as well in pre-season with a couple of injuries and Covid cases. Sometimes you need that in football.

“But the club is really lucky to have this kind of manager who cares a lot about the players, not just football-wise but about personal life, and that goes a long way in life.”

The Ireland captain joined Neil Lennon’s team last September on a season-long loan deal and made 27 appearances for his boyhood club, winning a Scottish Cup in the process, thanks to the rearranged 2020 Final. However, personal issues and a disaster season for the club meant that Duffy was unable to find his best form. It is brilliant to see him doing well again
