Jota has made a bright start to life at Celtic after arriving on transfer deadline day this summer on a season-long loan from Benfica with an option to buy included in the deal. He has come in and quickly become an important member of Ange Postecoglou’ first-team.

There was never any question about Jota’s ability on the ball but he is also starting to show now how effective he can be. It was his goal against Aberdeen that ended Celtic’s long streak of not winning a game away from home, which had stretched back to earlier in the year.

Things have been tough for Postecoglou’s side lately who have missed several players through injury. Unsurprisingly, results have not been great recently and Jota has been one of the few bright spots.

Postecoglou feels though that Jota is just getting to understand the club’s game a bit better. As reported by The Scottish Sun, the Celtic manager said:

"“So far he has done well when we have kind of thrown him in.“He is playing every game and he probably wasn’t ready.“I don’t think he has played many games in his whole career.“But he has shown great promise and is getting to understand our game a wee bit better.”"

Postecoglou also added:

"“For Jota to get his first one in the league – particularly away from home – will be positive for him.“But, again, he is just starting his Celtic career, so hopefully there is more to come.”"

Celtic fans should be excited by Postecoglou’s comments about Jota

It must be said that Jota has done quite well in the performances that he has put in till now and has often stood out. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored twice and assisted twice in 7 appearances for Celtic across all competitions.

And if he is still just getting to understand the style of football, one would expect him to improve throughout the course of the season as he gets more experience under his belt.

Coming through the youth ranks, Jota was one of the most highly-rated youngsters in the world and at one point was wanted by Real Madrid.

His transition to senior football has not been very smooth though and he has not played a lot of football at this level yet. But his performances for Celtic have been very promising till now and he can end up playing a big role for the club moving forward.
