As the Summer Anime Season is coming to an end, many anime have already wrapped up, but The Aquatope on White Sand is not one of them. The original anime will continue into the Fall Season with a second cour airing without a break from the first. But can we expect a new season for Shiroi Suna no Aquatope?

In case you missed it this summer, Aquatope on White Sand follows two girls who meet in the ruins of their youthful dreams; Kukuru is a high-schooler acting as a director for her grandfather's aquarium, knowing the place she loves most in the world will close down by the and of the summer; and Fuuka, who didn't manage to succeed as an idol in Tokyo.

The two girls become good friends when Fuuka arrives in Okinawa, hoping to rest and find herself following the end of her idol career. When she accepts a job as an attendant in Kukuru's aquarium she rediscovers her passion for life and makes new friends, leading to her decision to support Kukuru's dream to save her beloved aquarium.

As of October 2021, no second season has been announced for The Aquatope on White Sand. Yet, the second cour of the 24-episode anime is treated as one by some. Without spoiling too much, it suffices to say that it marks a new episode in Kukuru's life, as she moves on from high-schooler and acting director to member of the workforce in a completely different setting.

The Aquatope on White Sand does have a manga, which, however, serves as an adaptation rather than the source material, meaning we can't tell whether a Season 2 would be possible. Already, the second part surprised us by giving a definitive conclusion to the main plot point of the first cour – and one that was quite traumatic for the main heroine.

Fittingly, the second cour is expected to follow Kukuru in the aftermath, much like the way the first 12 episodes were concerned with Fuuka navigating the end of her dream. That being the case, we don't think that yet another season would add much to what is a lovely slice-of-life show. So far, even those episodes that focus on characters going about their daily lives are entertaining to watch, but with yet another season would be in danger of making good patterns a bit repetitive.

In any case, The Aquatope on White Sand remains one of the most interesting works the Summer Season had to offer, and we'll update you with more information should another season be announced.
