For much of the past week, Sacramento Kings rookie Davion Mitchell has drawn the assignment of guarding Tyrese Haliburton in training camp. The two have seen plenty of each other, so much so that Haliburton is tired of seeing him in practice.

Haliburton and the Kings started training camp last Tuesday and have gone through quite a few practices during that time. They now have the opportunity to play against another team when they host the Phoenix Suns on Monday.

The second-year guard is very much looking forward to playing a different team.

“I’m looking forward to getting some real bump, not to say what we’re doing isn’t but just taking it to other guys,” Haliburton said recently. “I’ve seen Davion’s face too much guarding me, so I’m looking forward to him being on my side going against some other guys.”

Mitchell has seemingly impressed everyone within the Kings’ organization during his short stint with the team. He drew praise from De’Aaron Fox and Haliburton previously for his work ethic, and each believes he is ready to contribute now.

The ninth pick has spent plenty of time in the gym since joining the Kings. Haliburton even revealed the team is limiting his practice time because he is in the gym so often. For Haliburton, it has been refreshing to watch Mitchell.

“It has been fun to watch him and De’Aaron go at it, and also for me to be part of it as well,” Haliburton said. “It’s fun to compete with each other, and that is the beauty of the game.”

With the preseason underway, Haliburton and the rest of the roster will have the luxury of facing other players. The season projects to be an important one for the team to continue to build momentum toward the playoffs, and it appears as though they are ready for the challenge.
