2-time Olympian gold medalist and Auburn alum Ruthie Bolton visits G.W. Carver with inspiring message

Two-time Olympic gold medalist Ruthie Bolton came to G.W. Carver to encourage students to be bold, mighty and confident.

"You don't have to let your situation be your destination," said Bolton on Friday afternoon. 

Bolton, who grew up in McLain, Mississippi, is touring southern states to give advice and give back to communities she identifies with.

She traced her story from playing at Auburn, where she reached the Final Four, to going pro and becoming a WNBA All-Star, to competing in the 1996 and 2000 Olympics. 

"She was able to come here today and drop some words of encouragement and motivation for these young people," Carver girls basketball coach Adria Harris, who invited Bolton, said. "She's a great product of what she has become and she was able to pour into the girl and boys about being an athlete and what it really takes."
