The Walking Dead: World Beyond Season 2, Episode 1 “Konsekans” does not hesitate in showing the very dark and cruel world of the apocalypse when the CRM is in charge. This already feels like a different show, from the tone to filming angles and cut scenes. Let’s dive in with Hope’s current situation.

The Walking Dead: World Beyond Season 2, Episode 1 recap: Hope’s Journey

Elizabeth Kublek’s helicopter lands on the top of a skyscraper as she, Jennifer (Huck) and Hope face the remains of a destroyed city. Elizabeth makes this pitstop because she doesn’t believe Hope is ready yet.

While Hope is intelligent and has the means to preserve everything the CRM does, she is still a liability due to her reckless and rule-breaking ways. She tells Hope that Omaha and College Colony have been lost due to large empty hordes.

However, we know that Elizabeth caused the walls to be breached for reasons that remain somewhat unclear. Elizabeth gives Hope a choice, to try to survive the city and escape or figure out what she wants and call for them to pick her up.

Hope decides to make the journey alone, coming across an abandoned building (a school or college dorm perhaps?), noticing violently written words everywhere and the face of a young woman named Candice. Hope is almost killed by an empty and suffers a concussion as she sporadically comes in and out of consciousness, imagining her old home and those she loves as well as terrifying empties.

Roaming the streets, she keeps seeing a hooded figure. After barely escaping empties, she becomes trapped in a room with the hooded figure, who happened to be none other than Candice.

However, the young woman doesn’t recognize that name and has proven how the world can turn people violent and desperate. The two grapple, Hope doesn’t want to harm her but has no choice, and Candice winds up getting eaten alive.

She calls for Elizabeth to pick her up, and she is taken to the facility where her father is located. In private, she admits to Jennifer that she wants to improve the future but doesn’t want to do it through the CRM.

Perhaps all is not bad at the CRM as Hope is finally reunited with her father.

It becomes more and more apparent that Elizabeth does not confide in her daughter and is most likely using her. Jennifer is not aware of what happened at Omaha and the College Colony and becomes angry that her mother was letting Hope decide her fate.

Jennifer did all of the work to get Hope to her mother, believing that Hope can bring significant change and, most of all, reunite her with her father. If Hope dies in the city, then it would all be for nothing.

Jennifer does not follow Hope into the city and waits with her mother, who questions her about what the others know. Jennifer did provide some insight into the CRM but refused to let her mother know about it.

Elizabeth mentions that they do have Silas and have been questioning him. She adds that they would be dealt with in regards to the others if they tried to rescue Hope.

When Hope makes the call for them, Elizabeth is relieved Jennifer didn’t follow Hope, believing she can still trust her daughter…for now.

The Walking Dead: World Beyond Season 2, Episode 1 recap: Perimeter

Iris and Felix follow Will to what is known as The Perimeter, a small farm town run by Indira. She allows Felix and Iris to stay, and they move into Will’s home.

Will explains how he noticed communication was lost between the CRM and Omaha. Each time he’d ask, they’d give him an excuse.

When he and another are allowed to leave to check up on things, it was obviously a trap to have them killed. Will survives and finds the group who lived at The Perimeter.

He tells Felix and Iris about the empty horde that destroyed Omaha and College Colony, to which both are unsure how to respond to such devastating news. As Iris tries to continue decoding CRM’s messages, she becomes increasingly worried about Hope.

However, if she and Felix were to venture out, they’d be putting the lives of everyone at The Perimeter in danger as well as their own. Iris, however, cannot stop thinking about what he told her about Omaha and College Colony and decides to go to a CRM outpost that night.

Armed with a crossbow, she spots a guard. She’s unsure whether to kill him until a walker attacks first.

Using the opportunity, she fights and kills him after realizing earlier that evening that the fall of Omaha and College Colony was because of the CRM.

The Walking Dead: World Beyond Season 2, Episode 1 is a wonderful preview for what lies ahead.

The second and final season looks very promising just from this first episode alone. The show took a different turn toward a tone you’d see more so on The Walking Dead.

Whereas before, the CRM was seen as untrustworthy now we know they are the real villains of the show. Hope isn’t stupid and will act as she needs to be with her father and stop the CRM from the inside.

Iris’s downright cutthroat character development is realistic and heavily needed. Seeing Felix break down not just at the thought of being with someone he loves but also at realizing how many lives were lost at Omaha and College Colony.

Felix knows that a fight is coming, but he also knows they will have to change tactics. He said it best during the episode that the CRM changed the game, which means they have to change how to play it.

It will be tricky, considering the CRM has the advantage for now. There is a lot to look forward to, and I cannot wait to see how everything goes down!
