Now You Can Edit Time & Date Of Images/Videos On Google Photos Android App

Google Photos is the company’s stock photo managing application. It allows you to edit, view, or even back up all of your images from your Android phone. Recently, the Android app is gaining a new ability.

Notably, Google Photos is getting a feature that would allow you to edit the time and date of images and videos on your smartphone. You can edit the actual time and date, which is recorded by default, to a different time and date of your choosing.

Well, this is not a first-of-a-kind feature that Google is bringing on the Google Photos Android app. Earlier, in order to change the metadata of your media files stored in the cloud storage or internal storage of your phone, you needed to make use of a third-party app.

Thankfully for those who tweak metadata of their media files, Google Photos is getting this ability natively. You can use this feature to change the date and time of media files already stored in your library.

The feature is now live with Google Photos Android app version 5.57.0.394309483 or later.

The ability to change the date and time of media files on Google Photos is arriving via a server-side update

If you think the image that you have received via WhatsApp or the image that you have downloaded from the web has incorrect metadata, then you can open Google Photos and change it quite easily.

Moreover, customized metadata of media files can also help you search for particular images or videos faster. To view the location and description of the image or video, simply slide up on the media file to expand the menu containing the required information.

You will notice a new pencil icon for the time and date section in the Google Photos slide-in info panel. Tapping on it will pop open a new menu. Here, you can set the date and time for the media file.

For users who have a huge library of images and videos uploaded from PC, there is a nifty option to categorize albums year by year.

As noted by 9To5Google, the ability to change the date and time for media files using Google Photos is arriving via a server-side update. So, if you haven’t received the new feature for your Google Photos app, then you should ensure that you are running the latest version of the app and wait for your turn.

The feature is expected to be available for all users in the coming weeks.
