‘I Love You. I Support You. I Believe in You,’ Says Colon Cancer Fighter Criscilla Anderson to Britney Spears; Anderson Danced with Britney On Tour & In Videos

Britney Spears’s conservatorship has been the subject of much attention lately, and a new Netflix documentary, Britney Vs Spears, investigates her legal woes. In a heartfelt Instagram post, Anderson shares a picture of her and Britney together when Anderson was a dancer for Spears. She writes, “I just watched the Netflix documentary "Britney vs Spears" & having danced 4 Britney live on stage during the HOB m+ms tour & danced in music videos with her, I feel led to write this. So much makes sense now…”

Anderson goes on to remember performing with Spears at Las Vegas’s House of Blues, calling it her “dream job” and a “beautiful moment in my dance career.” Anderson, a Las Vegas native, was interviewed by a local paper about dancing with Britney. She says, “I remember this man [the journalist] asking me ‘has Britney ever said anything funny to you’ I said ‘oh ya we were joking & she said y'all should shave your heads too and we can all go in stage together’ (this was recently after she had shaved her head)…”

Anderson says that the headline for the article painted Spears in a bad light, causing Anderson to feel “mortified” and making it look like she was trying to hurt Britney.

Anderson says she watched the new Britney Spears documentary on Netflix, and it made her think, “I'm mad at myself for not talking because what I had to say could have helped her. I didn't realize what was happening or how trapped she was. What a prisoner she's been. & now it all makes so much sense. This tore me up tonight watching her hurt.”

She then writes directly to Britney, saying, “I stand with you. I love you. I support you. I believe you. I understand more. I wish I could have been there to protect you more. I now know. I'm older, wiser & fearless. & I know u r 2! I love you so much! Know that. Dancing 4 you was & always will be a highlight in my life. & the short friendship we started… will always be special 2 me.”

Treating Stage 4 Colon Cancer

Anderson is currently fighting stage 4 cancer. She has undergone chemotherapy which led to the shrinking of her tumors, she reported to fans.

In an earlier interview, NYU Langone Perlmutter Cancer Center’s Dr. Paul Oberstein explains the goals of treatment for stage 4 colon cancer. He says that the reducing the amount of cancer in the body and controlling it is the primary aim of treatment at this stage.

"When someone comes in with cancer that has spread outside the colon, it's called stage 4 colon cancer or metastatic colon cancer," says Dr. Oberstein. "The primary goal of therapy, and we discuss this in great detail with patients and their families, is to manage the cancer, is to try to control the cancer, to turn it into what we call a chronic disease, so to prevent it from growing, spreading, and causing problems."

He also says that treatment options are complicated and will depend on someone’s unique circumstances. For stage 4 colon cancer, treatment options can include surgery, chemotherapy and immunotherapy treatments.

Anderson’s beautiful post in support of her friend Britney Spears highlights a truth of life: Friends matter; and community is important. That’s even more true when you’re going through a difficult ordeal like a cancer battle. It’s important to rely on friends, family, and community to help support you during your fight.

In an earlier interview, Beverly Reeves, an ovarian cancer fighter, tells us how important community was to her after her diagnosis. She says, “If I had one piece of advice for someone who had just been diagnosed with ovarian cancer, it would be to get a strong support group together.”

“Get your close friends,” she says. “If you’re connected to a faith community, get your faith community. Get your family. Let them know what’s going on and let them help you. And sometimes that’s the most difficult thing to do, but just know that they are there. If they love you, they’re there to help you.”
