WEEKEND ROUNDUPS: Macomb volleyball second at Orion

Macomb 1, Alleman 1

MACOMB — The Bombers settled for a draw on Saturday, playing Alleman even.

Both teams were able to tally single goals but neither squad could break through for a game-winning goal, settling for a 1-1 tie.

SWIMMING

United Township Invite

EAST MOLINE — The Macomb girls scored 252 points to finish third at Saturday’s United Township Swim Invitational.

Sterling won the five-team meet, finishing with 353 points.

Grace Dunseth led the way for the Bombers, finishing second in the 150 free.

Liberty Hamer would give the Bombers a strong showing in the 100 free, adding a third-place finish.

VOLLEYBALL

Orion Invitational

ORION — The Macomb girls finished second in the Orion Invitational over the weekend, losing in the title match to Galena (15-25, 23-25).

Avery Rexroat and Kennedy Adair led the way for the Bombers, earning all-tournament honors.

Macomb went unbeaten in pool play, topping United (25-19, 25-13), Orion (25-10, 25-14) and Alleman (25-12, 25-11).

In the semifinals, Macomb topped Princeton in two (21-7, 21-13).

In the Princeton and Galena matchers, Adair managed 13 kills combined while Rexroat handed out 32 assists and had three aces.

Sarah Stufflebeam lead the defense with 18 digs.

In the three pool play matches, Adair finished with 25 kills while Samantha Urch was over 20 kills.

Avery Rexroat had 74 assists.

Stufflebeam had over 25 digs.

BOYS CROSS COUNTRY

Elmwood/Brimfield Invite

ELMWOOD — South Fulton finished 19th while Macomb was 23rd at Saturday’s Elmwood/Brimfield Invitational.

E/B won the meet with 78 points.

Isaac Jones led South Fulton, finishing sixth overall.

Carl Blome was Macomb’s top finisher, crossing in 73rd with a time of 18:52.8.

Isaac Rebman (19:35.1) was next for the Bombers while Jacob Rouse (141st, 20:49.2), Amir Oden-Shabazz (152nd, 21:16.4), Blake Overstreet (166th, 21:45.) and Payton McGruder (196th, 23:19.6) rounded out Macomb’s day.

Aiden Parks (53rd, 18:22.7), Ethan Dennis (103rd, 19:41.3), Noah France (188th, 22:39.2), Maddox Clemens (25:24.4, 207) and Luke Simmons (29:31.5) rounded out South Fulton’s team results.

Ross Stehl was the lone runner for B-PC, finishing 187th in 22:38.5.

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY

Elmwood/Brimfield Invite

ELMWOOD — Macomb would finish 13th while South Fulton was 14th in Saturday’s 19-team Elmwood/Brimfield Invite.

The Bombers scored 318 points while the Rebels had 346.

Eureka won the meet with 37.

Khyliegh Diggs led the Bombers, finishing 51st in 22:09.6. Jasmine Alcantara was next for the Bombers, crossing in 22:38.5, good for 64th.

The Bombers packed their next three finishers as Lorna Brown was 98th in 23:50.8, Quinn Kurasz was 100th in 24:06.8 and Kristen Rebman was 103rd in 24:11.0.

South Fulton was led by Meg Simmons, who finished seventh in 19:22.5.

Abigail Stevenson was next, crossing in 60th with a time of 22:27.9.

Keira Taylor (25:30.3, 121st), Emily Clemens (28:38.5, 143rd), Kristen Essex (147th, 28:49.5) and Elena DeWees (29:42.8, 160th) closed out South Fulton’s scoring.

Hannah Stevenson (34:29, 172nd) and Casey Carithers (174th, 36:37.4) closed out the Rebel runners.

B-PC also entered a pair of runners.

Madison McGrew was 102nd, finishing in 24:09.7 while Olivia Malda was 154th in 29:37.0.

FOOTBALL

Farmington 51, Rushville-Industry 12

FARMINGTON — In a showdown of state-ranked unbeaten, it was all Farmington on Friday night as the Farmers topped Rushville-Industry 51-12.

The Farmers (6-0) had a fast start,l eating 14-0 after a quarter.

A 31-point second-quarter explosion but Farmington way ahead and allowed the Farmers to have a second-half running clock.

R-I tallied single touchdowns in the third and fourth quarters.

Decatur Lutheran 56, Bushnell-Prairie City 28

DECATUR — Decatur Lutheran took a big lead early, then held on for a 56-28 shootout win on Friday over Bushnell-Prairie City.

Decatur Lutheran led 28-8 after a quarter and 56-8 at half.

In the second half, the Spartans scored 14 points in the third and six in the fourth but could not draw closer.

The loss drops B-PC to 3-3 overall.

West Prairie/Southeastern 23, South Fork 22

SCIOTA — It was a happy homecoming for WP/SE on Friday as the Cyclones topped South Fork 23-22.

A field goal in the fourth was the difference as West Prairie/Southeastern earned its second win of the season.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Cyclones led 20-8 at half.

South Fork battled back, scoring a a touchdown in the third to make it 20-16.

South Fork added a score in the fourth but WP/SE was able to get the win to improve to 2-4.

Illini West 40, South Fulton 6

TABLE GROVE — The Rebels fell to 3-3 this season, losing to Illini West 40-6 on Friday night.

The game was tied 6-6 after a quarter, but from there the Chargers went to work.

Illini West was able to score a pair of touchdowns in the second quarter to lead 18-6 at halftime.

A touchdown in the third made it 24-6.

Illini West iced the game with two fourth quarter scores.
