Portland Trail Blazers superstar Damian Lillard is a straight shooter, regardless of the platform. This time, Lillard is giving his personal take on the neverending GOAT debate.

In an exchange with a fan on Twitter, the Blazers guard bluntly responded when asked about who he thinks is the greatest basketball player of all time.

Who would've thought Lillard has Mike James in his mind all this time?

Kidding aside, Michael Jordan is arguably the popular choice. One can easily make a case for LeBron James, though. There's also a sentimental pick for some in Kobe Bryant and a darkhorse choice in Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. All these make for some beautiful basketball debate, as long as no one crosses lines.

Interestingly, both Damian Lillard and Michael Jordan have a flair for the dramatic. They're known to rise in clutch situations. Both stars are also loyal and have been popular for carrying their teams to certain levels of success despite not having a star-laded roster.

The closest to Jordan in the GOAT conversation is James. He combines consistency, longevity, individual accolades, and championships throughout his 18-year career that is still a few more years from being over.

Damian Lillard isn't going to get near the level of universal reverence Michael Jordan enjoys. However, he has carved quite a niche for himself.

Lillard has overcome doubts ever since stepping foot in the NBA. Critics said he was too old for a first-year player, so he used that experience to bag the Rookie of the Year award. Everything else that came next was a product of hard work, dedication, and pure heart.
